Who needs to buy a chocolate milkshake, thickshake or ice-cream drink concoction when this healthy smoothie tastes SO MUCH better and it’s good for you (you’ll be satisfying your chocolate craving while sneaking in some veggie goodness thanks to the baby spinach. Plus, blending the chia seeds makes them more easily absorbed in the body).
High in essential fatty acids (good fats), vitamin B6, potassium (a mineral that plays a role in lowering blood pressure) and antioxidants, this seriously decadent, smooth and addictive smoothie is great for breakfast or as a delicious snack. Have it as a post-workout drink and it’ll keep you taut and toned!
Prep time: 5 minutes
1 frozen banana
2 tbsp honey, maple syrup or 3 soaked medjool dates
2 heaped tbsp raw cacao powder
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 cup ice-cubes
1 cup baby spinach
1 tsp chia seeds
1 tbsp pea protein powder (optional)
Chopped nuts and shredded coconut to serve!
1. Blend all ingredients until smooth and thick. Top with chopped nuts and shredded coconut.
2. Serve immediately!
Tip: Make this into a chocolate chia pudding by adding an extra tbsp of chia seeds. Keep refrigerated overnight and the smoothie will turn into a yummy gelatinous mixture!
