Morning workout: stretch class overlooking this amazing view!

If your idea of relaxing is doing stretch classes, bushwalks, facials and sipping herbal teas in front of an open fire, then Solar Springs Health Retreat, Bundanoon (just a 2 hour drive from Sydney’s CBD) is THE place to go.

Think of it as a kind of B&B country-style hidden gem that’s surrounded by monstrous trees mingled with luscious green gardens. Solar Springs only houses 26 rooms, so it definitely has a homely feel. And although there’s actually lots you can do here; from bushwalking, gym classes, aquafit, swim/spa, archery and exploring nearby towns, all I really wanted to do was feel nurtured and pampered.

I was fortunate enough to hang out at this slice of peaceful paradise with three other bloggers (Cass from Live It, Do It, Sara from Kid Magazine and Lisa from Sydney Social 101) for a famil, and we were all pretty stoked that this was just the quick getaway we needed to reset our bodies from all the flurry that consumes our busy lives.

Here were some of the highlights:

The naturopath consult:

Naturopathy looks at health from a holistic point of view and includes the importance of lifestyle and environment, inherited characteristics, diet as well as your attitudes and emotions. What I love about their in-house naturopath is that she takes a detailed look at your lifestyle and diet habits and offers ways on how you can improve them for better mental, physical and emotional health. She also makes the special herbal tea blends that are available on-site.

The FOOD!:

The meals here are definitely hearty, home-cooked and nourishing. Breakfast was a buffet that included eggs, porridge, cereals, fruit, yoghurt juices and sautéed veggies. Lunch was vegetarian, one of my faves being chickpea veggie patties with a crunchy veggie salad. Dinner was a three-course meal which included a leek soup, followed by a chicken and watercress salad, then a scrumptious dessert of Portuguese tart with mascarpone ice-cream (not so healthy, but full of creamy deliciousness)!

The ‘Solar Radiance’ facial:

All treatments at Solar Springs use all natural and organic products. My facial was focused not just on my face, but my décolletage, shoulders and upper arms. I felt totally blissed out and wanted to sleep straight after the hour treatment.

The early morning stretch class

After sleeping like a baby, I loved that I could start my day with a stretch class overlooking rolling hills and valleys. The fitness instructor here incorporated resistance bands, yoga and Pilates moves which was just the type of workout my body needed.
