This is my modern and healthy take on a traditional Filipino recipe called champorado, which is essentially a sweet chocolate rice porridge. If you love oats, but aren’t that keen on mixing it with chocolate, you might like to try my Yummy Strawberry and Chia Bircher Muesli instead.
Like your standard porridge recipe, the options for toppings are endless, but I love it the most with some chopped banana, walnuts, dates and raspberries. What’s more, oats are an excellent source of soluble fibre which keeps you regular and helps lower LDL cholesterol (it works by binding with cholesterol-containing bile acids in the intestines and whisking them out of the body). In fact, this whole meal offers more than just fibre: it’s full of protein, healthy fats, calcium and vitamin C!
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 2 minutes

1 tbsp of honey, maple syrup or coconut sugar to sweeten (optional)
Chopped banana, dates, walnuts and raspberries to serve!
1. Mix the oats with the almond milk, cacao and water in a bowl. Add more water or milk depending on your preferred consistency.
2. Heat in the microwave on high for 1 minute, then remove and stir well. Put in the microwave for a further 30 – 60 seconds till oats are well combined with the wet ingredients.
