my natural beauty essentials

Ever since I was a teenager, I have been obsessed with makeup and beauty. Partly because of my acne-ridden teenage years, I’ve been on a quest for products to attain the flawless and airbrushed look of the girls in magazines. I have spent countless hours in drugstores trying out different foundations and lip-glosses (late 90s and early 2000s are all about lip-glosses) and splurged on MAC products every time I received pocket money from my parents or from cash earned from part-time jobs in college.

But I know wearing makeup everyday isn’t the healthiest thing for my skin. It doesn’t help either that my skin is oily, dehydrated, sensitive and prone to breakouts. In fact, your skin absorbs around 60 per cent of what you slather on it. So, whenever I can, I let my skin breathe and love to pamper it with natural products that are healing and nourishing.

Unlike synthetic fragrances and chemicals found in many mainstream beauty buys, I like the way natural products smell and feel on the skin. And most importantly, the ingredients are just as effective and gentle as popular products that contain sulfates, parabens, talc, petrochemicals, synthetic dyes and artificial fragrances (just to name a few nasties you can find).

The below are my favourite natural skincare essentials which, I hope by sharing them, can encourage you to try them, too!

1. Grown Alchemist Gentle Gel Cleanser

Grown Alchemist is an Australian skincare line with certified natural peptides and organic botanical active ingredients. They are known for their efficacy, great packaging and affordable price. Grown Alchemist Gentle Gel Cleanser leaves my skin feeling clean without drying out my skin. It smells so good too, with its blend of geranium, bergamot and a hint of rose.

2. Kosmea Organic Rose Hip Oil

I am a big fan of rosehip oils. Rosehip oil does everything – hydrates, balances and repairs the skin. I have been using Kosmea Organic Rose Hip Oil which is 100% organic and contains more Vitamin A content than the rest in the market. I use it especially on scars. Sometimes, I put a few drops on areas that are really dry and flaky before layering body lotion on top.

3. Kosmea Facial Cleansing Wipes

I don’t use wipes to remove makeup everyday, but the Kosmea Facial Cleansing wipes is my perfect go-to cleanser for the office or post-gym workout. The main ingredients are aloe vera and rosehip oil, which leave your skin smelling really nice and nourished unlike the generic makeup wipes than can dry out your skin.

4. Kosmea Facial Rescue Balm

My new favorite product from Kosmea is the Rescue Balm. The main ingredients are rose hip butter, everlasting oil and calendula oil. This is a soothing balm that repairs damaged skin tissue and soothes all kinds of skin irritations. I have been dabbing this on my acne to speed up the healing process.

5. Grown Alchemist Vanilla and Orange Peel Hand Cream

Lastly, I am in love with the very popular Grown Alchemist Vanilla and Orange Peel hand cream. It’s creamy and moisturising but not greasy. The smell is to die for – orange with a hint of vanilla. Layer this after washing your hands or before going to bed to protect and moisturise.
